DECA WINS!
Last week Rogers High School had three DECA students receive on-stage recognition at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California. Katie Humphries and Kaitlin Rhodes were international finalists in their Business Law and Ethics Team Event and Meredith Breach was recognized in her Food Marketing case study event. All the students who attended were true ambassadors and ambassadresses for Rogers High School!

Congratulations Choir!
On April 12,2013, our RHS choruses competed at the State Choral Festival at UCA. All three groups, FX Show Choir, Debonaire Men, and Bella Harmonia Women scored straight Superiors from all judges with each group winning a State Sweepstakes trophy. Both Debonaire Men and Bella Harmonia Women were also ranked first place, "Best in Class", for men's choruses and women's choruses in 7A schools in Arkansas. FX Mixed Concert, with much competition, came in second place in 7A Arkansas schools. Judges also commented on their level of professionalism, and their behavior was exemplary. Please congratulate these students for their hard work and accomplishments!

Congratulations Choir!
Congratulations to the choral students who competed in San Antonio this past weekend! All three groups, Bella Harmonia Women, FX Show, and Debonaire Men scored straight superiors in their performances. Their exceptionally high scores also earned Bella Harmonia and FX the Adjudicators Award trophies, with FX winning "Most Outstanding Choral Group", the Grand Champion award. We are proud of the hardworking and talented students of our RHS choral department!!
RHS Teacher Wins Award!
Mrs. Sliger has been chosen to receive the Outstanding Young Alumni Award! The University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Profession's Outstanding Young Alumni Award recognizes an individual who graduated within the past 10 years and has demonstrated exceptional professional and personal achievement and extraordinary distinction in the education or health and human service profession. Award selection was by the Alumni Awards Committee of the Dean's Advisory Council and Dean Tom Smith. Nominations were taken by the community. Mrs. Sliger will be honored at the College of Education and Health Professions Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2013 and at a private reception the night before. Congratulations Mrs. Sliger!
RHS Broadcast wins Awards!
Members of Ms. Lavender's Fundamental Broadcasting class entered the Arkansas Attorney General's Youth Suicide Prevention PSA Contest. Madeleine Conway, Madaline Jones and Jake Gilbert placed 2nd and Alejandra Gonzalez, Francisco Magana, and Luis Jimenez came in third. Please congratulate these students on their hard work and success.
Nick Mulcahy participated in the Arkansas Wrestling All-Star Classic this past Saturday in Russellville, AR. This meet pits the 1A-5A state champion against the 6A-7A state champion in each weight class. Nick won the 152 pound match against Daniel Verra of Maumelle by a score of 18-7.
Nick has also been named the Northwest Arkansas Wrestler of the Year and will be honored with a brief article in the paper in a couple of days. Please congratulate him when you see him.
BMI Information
BMI measurements were complete on sophomore students in January 2013. You may obtain results by contacting the school nurse at 479-636-2202, ext. 116. Please provide your students name and your mailing address, and we will be happy to mail you a copy of your child's report.
Regional Math Contest
Last Saturday 41 RHS students competed in the regional math contest at the U of A in Fayetteville, AR. Please congratulate all of these kids for their hard work and for giving up a Saturday for a math test.
In Geometry Emery Brock, Tony Roller, Sanjana Boyapalli, and Grant Larkin were in the top 25
and Mackensie Kelly and Jarrod Eisma were in the top ten.

Braelyn Smith was in the top ten
Sidney Wilson took 3rd place
and Sophie Crafton was 1st!!!!
In Precal/Trig Angel Gonzalez and Alvaro Aldana were in the top 25

All of the students above should get invited to the state math contest in April.

The RHS DECA Club received two of the highest national DECA achievement awards at the State DECA Leadership and Competitive Events Conference in Little Rock on February 24-25, 2013. Chapter awards received were the Promotional Campaign and Community Service awards. RHS President Meredith Breach was awarded the Arkansas DECA Scholarship. Congratulations Choir
The Advanced Women's Chorus, Bella Harmonia, the Advanced Men, Debonaire, and the Show Choir, FX, competed in the NW District Choral Assessment at Har-Ber High School. All three groups scored straight Superiors in both Performance and Sight-Reading!!! They have now qualified to compete in the State Choral Festival in Conway in April. These students have worked exceptionally hard over the past month to achieve such high honors. Please congratulate any of these choir students for such excellence in representing Rogers High School.
Congratulations Wrestling Team!
Mounties take second place in STATE!!!! Nine Mounties earned state medals by placing in the top six of their respective weight classes this past weekend.
Rogers had one champion,Nick Mulcahy, at 152 pounds. He won an exciting overtime final to finish the year 57-2 and set new team records with 57 wins and 235 takedowns.
We had two wrestlers who were runner-ups. Edwin Santos finishes the year 56-3 and broke the school record for falls with 39 and team points with 356. Gio Soto wrestled well earning second at 220 pounds.
Justin Moore finished third at 145. He finished the year 51-7.
Three Mounties finished fourth. Raul Rodriguez 126, Heath Henman 138, and Josue Oscoy 285 each performed very well. Austin Rodriguez finished fifth at 160 and Madison Montgomery finished sixth at 132.
We placed 9 out of the 11 who went to state! Please congratulate team! What they accomplished was not easy by any means!
Congratulations RHS Debate!
Please congratulate Brianna Graham on winning 3rd place in the 4th annual Bailey & Oliver Speech competition! She, along with 6 other students from RHS Debate, competed against 7 students from Bentonville High School this weekend. She received high scores from her judging panel, which consisted of local news anchors, judges, CEOs, and school administrators (including our own Mrs. Highfill)! Our students represented RHS exceptionally well. All of the judges approached me throughout the competition to tell me how pleased they were with the students' talent, poise, and demeanor.
Congratulations to Dr. Tom Woodruff. He has been named VFW Arkansas State Teacher of the Year, VFW District 1 Teacher of the Year, and the VFW Post 3031 teacher of the Year. Congratulations Tom!

Project Graduation Registration
NAEP
Dear Parent or Guardian:
We are pleased to let you know that Rogers High School has been selected to represent schools across our state and nation by participating in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAEP is given by the U.S. Department of Education and tells us what American students know and can do in key subject areas. It is the only ongoing nationally representative assessment that provides this valuable information.
Approximately 88 senior students from RHS have been chosen to participate in this assessment. You may be thinking that NAEP is just another test, but it’s not. NAEP is different from our state assessments, the SAT, and ACT because it represents all high school students across the country, not just those who plan to go on to college.
NAEP assessment results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, and they help the President, Congress, and all of our educators make decisions about how to improve our education system. NAEP is what the general public will hear about on the news when reporters discuss what high school students are learning.
The actual assessment takes about 90 minutes. During that time, students will be assessed in mathematics or reading. All students will be asked questions about their educational experiences that may be related to performance, such as homework and reading habits. Student scores are anonymous and will not affect student grades or academic records in any way. Instead, they will be combined with the scores of other students to produce results that reflect student capabilities in our state and nationwide.
Students who are selected to participate in NAEP have an important job to do. NAEP will provide a state and national snapshot of what students have learned in school, and it is essential that students take it seriously, try their best, and answer all the questions they can.

RHS Girls' Tennis Team State Champs!
Our RHS Girls' Tennis Team are back-to-back State Champions! Haeleigh Long earned our team 2 points. Katherine and Tiffany Tang won the 7A Doubles State Title which earned our team 7 points. Anusha Majagi and Kate Schmandt provided our team with the extra point we needed to pull away from the top 3 teams with 10 points. Great job by Kaitlin Rhodes for qualifying for state for her first time in her high school career as well!
Girls' Tennis Team Wins 7A Conference
The girls' tennis team won the 2012 7A West Conference Tennis Title. All of our conference girls earned necessary points for our victory. Haeleigh Long earned a 2nd place finish out of 16 girls. Tiffany and Katherine Tang won the doubles title. Kaitlin Rhodes won her consolation round along with the doubles team of Kate Schmandt and Anusha Majagi. Our two doubles teams and two singles players all made it to State. Please congratulate these girls on this special accomplishment. The state tennis tournament is next week in Little Rock at Burns Park.
